By 2017, video will account for 69% of all consumer internet traffic. 50% of the companies are already making use of the medium. The other half should realize the importance of video marketing too if they want to regenerate their marketing.
So in a nutshell, why should companies choose video marketing?
- people are more willing to watch a video that read a long text
- content is easier to digest
- relatively cheap
- it is more creative way --> attracts attention
- you can build a campaign around videos
- video is peerless when it comes to potential reach
- improves SEOs*
Really important thing is that there are greater optimization opportunities. So what does this mean?
With text-based content it is pretty hard to answer questions like:
- how much of your latest blog post did readers consume?
- did they re-read parts of it?
- or come back to it later and read it again?
- did they read it with friends?
Video has a feedback loop built in. Measure click-through rate, drop-off points, or number of times watched So with this you can know what is working and what's not.
An important tip to companies with video marketing: never forget the power of social media! With that users can find and share videos more easily.
So how can one make a good video? Here is a video that our group from school made for another course. It is also a great example of that everyone can learn how to make a video.
*SEO is search engine optimization

I like your blogpost a lot because I'm one of those persons who would rather watch a video than read a long text. You give many good reasons why companies should do video marketing. Writing about how big role a video marketing has on social media is always a good reminder because nowadays some people may not think the consequences what the video might cause. Thanks for showing us the "how to make a video"-video! It's great!
VastaaPoistaThanks for good blogpost -this was so useful! It's so easy to product videos, in my previous job I took videos with iPhone and selfiestick so you don't need a expensive videocamera necessarily. And believe or not, people liked my selfiestick-videos! I think that videos will be bigger phenomenon in the future -video tells more that 10 000 words!
VastaaPoistaNice plog post Tanja! I totally agree with you that video marketing is very important. Also I am that type of person, that doesn't have the best focus when reading, that's why I love videos. Well, exciting and captivating videos... I believe companies will take more advantage of the power of video marketing in the future, simply because of the fact that it is the future. For example newspapers have moved online, the next step is that they go video, so to say. Btw, nice video ;)
VastaaPoistaReally interesting blog post! I think this subject is really interesting and for my opinion video marketing is vital for the future, because of people haven't time to read long text, the video is easily shared in social media, the content is easier to tell and so on. And of course best quality videos is always better since they attract more attention in visual way.
VastaaPoistaThis is a really good blog-post! It instantly gave me lots of thoughts.I´m not against it but I don´t agree 100% also.I like videos, but I do like to read also ;) I was the one who watched all the top ten music videos on the MTV at the `90`s before leaving to school. I also had my best movie experience of all time with the Gone With the Wind before reading the novel. I watched the movie first because it had amazing marketing with great romance etc and when you are young you believe in romance etc. When I did finally read it I realised immediately that I had missed a lot. I have always regretted that I watched the movie first. I felt they were two different/separate stories.
VastaaPoistaSo that´s why I think a bit differently about video marketing. I think videos show you the fantasy but when you read it you can imaging the fantasy without pointing when and where.
I think using videos in marketing is a really good tool, but it should not be the only thing in marketing. There are plenty of good videos out and there are not so great videos out. I believe those lousy videos can destroy its good messages on marketing quite easily and give wrong impressions.
It is true that video tells more than "10 000 words" as how Anna commented also here, but why should it tell? Do we really need to be told those words/thoughts? Can´t we just make our own minds by reading it and of course feeling it how we want to. Do we need to be "told" how to feel like cry by watching videos? Just a thought..
Isn´t there a risk that we get too used to watching videos and lose all other marketing ideas and be just apathetic in everything in the long run. Isn´t there a risk that we lose all the fun/excitement? Mira commented that people don´t have time to read long text and sadly it seems to be quite true, but does anybody think why people are too busy to read? Is it what everyone ,whom are busy, really wants? and also are we in a risk loosing the privileged skill to read and communicate?
I guess I´m trying to ask that Aren´t we really loosing the trip because we want to see quick show?
